The Pokémon Astral Flare expansion focuses on the origin forms of the legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia, which first appeared in the main Pokémon Legends series title Arceus. In the Sword & Shield - Astral Flare set, the two are included as Pokémon V and Pokémon VSTAR cards. The Pokémon Astral Flare expansion also introduces previously unknown Pokémon from the Hisui region, including several different regional forms. The latest evolutions of Hisui's starter Pokémon, Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott, are represented on Pokémon V and Pokémon VSTAR cards in their regional forms. Pokémon Astral Flare features a shiny Pokémon, which functions similarly to the Shiny Pokémon from the Neo series and the Star Pokémon from the EX series. Shiny Pokémon are all basic Pokémon that represent the shiny form of a type of Pokémon and have a rule chart that states that only one copy can be included in a deck. The expansion also includes another subset of the Trainer Gallery, which includes more Full Art reprints of a Pokémon in addition to a Trainer. Each Pokémon Astral Flare booster pack contains ten cards from the expansion, a code card for use with Pokémon Trading Card Game Live, and a basic Energy card or VSTAR marker card.
